Process of Road Base Work in Dubai

The base layer is the most crucial step in the construction of any structure, including road base work and foundations. Everything you place on top of a weak and unstable base is more likely to collapse as it moves and settles.

The sort of soil you plan for Road Base work in Dubai should also be taken into account. Soils come in three primary categories: silt, clay, and sand. Since there are significant differences between all three soil types, understanding these differences is essential.

Sand: Sand is a granular substance made up of tiny mineral and rock fragments.

Silt: Carried by wind or water, silt is a sediment that resembles dust. Silt has a very fine, floury feel to it and is composed of extremely fine rock and mineral particles.

Clay: Among the organic soils, clay has the largest mineral content. The best soil for growth is clay. Because clays are seen as flexible, building atop them is difficult.

Sand is the perfect soil when taking into account the many types of soil and convenience of use when building. Since sand is made up of small rocks, it can be compacted easily and won't change shape when water or other materials are added to the soil. Clay soils are the worst to build on, with sandy soils being the finest. Clay soils are unstable to build on since they are plastic by nature. It is common for clay soil particles to undergo either a temporary or permanent change in shape when moist.

Although clay soils are notoriously difficult to build on, extremely expansive clays or high plastic clays are thought to be the most difficult soils. These clay varieties are quite erratic; they frequently change shape while dry and will either expand or compress when wet.

Due to the difficulty the construction crew faces in compacting the soil evenly and ensuring that it retains its shape after drying, this causes problems during the building process. In the event that water or another liquid seeps into the soil after construction, it also creates significant problems. This frequently results in catastrophic failures of the topcoat (i.e., asphalt, concrete, etc.) because the base has moved so much that it has moved the topcoat's stiff layer.

HANDLING UNPAVED ROAD

GRAVEL TREATMENT

By adding gravel as a layer above the expansive soil, expansive clays can be treated to reduce the quantity of water entering the soil and, consequently, the soil's potential expansion. Although the treatment won't continue forever, treating expansive clay soils with gravel will help reduce the chance that the road will become impassable due to excessive mud or rutty conditions. The length of the treatment varies from a few weeks to six months, depending on the environment, soil expansion, and usage. Although using gravel to treat the soil is a simple and accessible solution for most individuals, the cost of road maintenance work in Dubai can rise significantly over time due to the accumulation of gravel.

POLYMERS

Globally, polymer-based soil stabilization is a highly favored technique. When soil particles are bound together by a polymer soil stabilizer, the polymer functions as a kind of glue. Although polymers are simple to use, applying them requires additional processes, which typically involve compacting the soil. Although polymer soil stabilization works well for most soil types, its useful life is constrained. The project's duration is largely determined by the type of polymer and soil, although it can range from six to eighteen months. The microscopic particle size of expanding clays can pose a challenge for polymers trying to bind together tiny particles.
